The Institute of Early Years Education is powered by of National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), a not-for-profit membership association providing services to day nurseries and early years or childcare providers.

The Institute of Early Years Education is a membership body that connects like-minded people working in the early education and care sector, providing them with resources to support their professional development and personal wellbeing.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you, either when you become a member or during your membership. We also gather information when you participate in surveys or promotions. We collect the information for one of the following reasons:

  • To provide our services to you as a member of the Institute of Early Years Education.
  • To administer, evaluate and improve the products and services we provide to you.
  • To process your membership, your orders, bookings and payments.
  • To communicate with you in relation to your membership and the products and services you have purchased.
  • To notify you of important updates relating to your membership, including telling you about our activities, how we are supporting your interests, seeking your views and providing you with information to support your professional development.
  • To communicate with you about other products and services that may be of interest to you.
  • To undertake research in the field of early education and care.

We may also receive information about you if you use any of the other websites we operate or the other services we provide.

We use the information that you have given us in order to provide the products and services you have purchased. We also use the information for research purposes to support the early education and care workforce.

We may share this information with our partners who provide additional services and benefits to our members, for example, our member benefits service. We only share this information with third parties with your consent or where the product or service is delivered by a third party on our behalf or where we are obliged to do so by law. If you sign up to additional services delivered by one of our partners as part of your membership, it is in your best interest to read any related privacy information. They are the data controller for the data they collect and use however, we remain the data controller for any data we pass to them. For example, credentials for single sign on and to verify you are an active member.

The health and wellbeing member benefits service is provided by Spectrum Life and they are the data controller for information you provide on their platform. Their privacy notice can be found here.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting [email protected]. You can also remove consent by following the links provided in all our marketing email communications.

Consent is used to enable us to communicate with you about our products and services. 

b. We have a contractual obligation.
Contractual obligation is used for providing you with your membership and any other products and services that you have purchased.

c. We have a legal obligation.
This is used in circumstances such as processing financial data such as your membership payments.

d. We have a legitimate interest.
We use legitimate interest when communicating with our members, telling you about our activities, how we are supporting your interests, seeking your views on current issues and providing you with information, training and advice to help you in your role.

We may also use the information we hold about you in order to provide you with information about other products or services we feel may interest you including from our carefully selected partners.

We seek your consent to send you marketing communications. You can update your consent at any time in your member dashboard.

All our email communications include clearly visible unsubscribe and opt-out links for changing preferences. You can opt-out of communications or update your preferences at any time by emailing [email protected].

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored. All our information is stored under UK and / or EU law.

Where there is a contract between us, we will retain your personal data for the duration of the contract, and for a period of six years following its termination or expiry, to ensure we are able to comply with any contractual, legal, audit and other regulatory requirements, or any orders from competent courts or authorities.

We will then dispose of your information by secure electronic file deletion methods.

Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.  

Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you and aim to respond within one week.

We have the right to reject your request if it is deemed unreasonable or not required by law, including those that would be extremely impractical or could require disproportionate technical effort.
