New year, new opportunities: planning for success

In our webinars month, we explored ways to plan for a successful year ahead  both on a personal and professional level.  Our second  webinar of the month saw us exploring slow pedagogies and think about ways we can inject excitement into the seemingly mundane every day activities, and bring them to life as meaningful and memorable learning opportunities.

Don’t worry if you were unable to join us live! As part of your membership, you can catch up on the recordings at a time convenient to you.

What’s new beyond the Institute:

They work together as CWLWM (Childcare Wales Learning & Working Mutually) to support Welsh Government with its aim to provide accessible, affordable and high quality childcare and play opportunities for families across Wales. Recruitment and retention (Scotland members)

NDNA Scotland’s ELC advisor, Hannah Murison is currently undertaking an MEd and is researching the current issues with recruitment and retention in ELC. Your participation would be highly valued.

To participate, there is a simple questionnaire on QuestionPro. This will ask you to rank the factors that influence your decisions to stay or leave your ELC job by level of importance. There is a mixture of clickable questions and open questions to type in your thoughts about the listed factors. This questionnaire is anonymous, with no identifying information being asked of you to encourage honesty and openness in your responses. It will take about 10 minutes to complete.

If you are interested in taking part, please follow the link to the survey and feel free to share among your staff teams.

dfe survey.png

Have you started working in an early education role in the last 6 months or so? Or have you recently applied for a role like this?

The Department for Education (DfE) want to learn more about peoples’ views about jobs and careers in early education (i.e. roles working directly with children aged up to four). They have commissioned IFF Research to conduct this research in 40 local authorities across England. If your role is in one of those areas, you can access the survey and receive the £5 on completion.

To take part simply visit this page, and if the role you’ve started/applied for is in one of the 40 local authorities, you will be able to complete a short 5-10 minute survey. Once completed you will receive a £5 PayPal payment or Amazon voucher as a thank you for taking part.

Your feedback will help DfE to learn more about what attracts people like you to work in early education. They will use this information to make decisions about working conditions and pay.

If you know other recent starters in early years settings, or anyone applying for EY roles, please forward this survey on to them so that they can take part.
